Our Story

Cattle Alliance is the combination of two long-standing programs.

The 4 Open A Ranch began in 1937 in the purebred Hereford business and exhibited and marketed Hereford bulls in the stockyards at the NWSS for 46 years.  We exited the purebred business in 1983 and began building a commercial Angus cowherd.  We began using Maine-Anjou genetics in 2000 with the purchase of “Raydon” from Bob Majors.

In 2006, Cattle Alliance was formed, which combined our marketing and operating efforts with Bob & Connie Holzwarth of the Rocking BC Ranch. The Rocking BC Ranch has been in business for over 30 years and has assembled an outstanding group of Maine and Maine Influenced cows.

Our primary goal is to raise high quality, performance feeder calves and replacement heifers utilizing a strong foundation cowherd mated with the leading genetics of the Maine-Anjou breed.

We currently operate a 500 head commercial cowherd and exclusively use Maine-Anjou bulls. Our cowherd has been assembled from some of the leading seedstock producers in the country and we purchase our cattle in high volume to concentrate similar, high performance genetics, which allows us to select bulls that produce consistent feeder calves and replacement heifers. We A.I. the majority of our cowherd utilizing some of the top genetics in the Maine-Anjou breed including sires from DeRouchey Cattle Co., Green Valley Cattle Co. and Bushy Park Farms. This produces a consistent set of high performance calves that are similar in terms of age and performance, which aids in the marketing of our calves and reduces our labor resource required to manage our cowherd.  We currently calve our entire herd with one full-time employee and supplement with some part-time help. The performance from birth through our backgrounding operation and into the feedlot has been tremendous.

We market our calves annually by private treaty and through Superior Livestock video auctions and this past year sent calves to four different states, including a large group of replacement heifers.  Our Superior representatives have said, “We continue to receive more inquiries on your Maine influenced cattle than any other that we have represented”. The demand is exceptionally strong for Maine influenced cattle that are age and source verified backed by a strong vaccination program. We have seen substantial premiums over the market and continue to generate satisfied, repeat buyers.
